Perspective
Hi! Welcome to my web site. I hope you enjoy it and please get in touch if you have any questions or requests. My name is Steve Tubb and I am a furniture and cabinet designer / maker. I began in Scotland and now have been involved in this craft for over 20 years. After learning much and developing a solid foundation there, I returned to southern Ontario with my family. I have a small workshop at our farm just outside Stirling and there I focus a majority of my time on commission work.
If you have been unable to satisfy your furniture requirements get in touch and maybe my design and construction techniques will lead to a solution.
Real Beginnings:
I have come to realize two facts, namely, quality is important and unique pieces of furniture will always be required. In short I believe in quality and my principle aim is to tackle furniture design requirements. Of course original designs of quality take more time in all respects, but, a well crafted piece of furniture is worth the effort.
My development as a furniture and cabinet maker really started in Scotland where I began to learn about the different woods, about seasoning, and took my first tentative steps toward felling and hauling butts and limbs back for planking and storage. Using hand tools only, I began to create a style of furniture with a simple softness of appearance. It was also there I gained a preference for and appreciation of the beauty and versatility of hardwood timber.
Further Development:
I continued to develop my craft and soon began taking on furniture repair and restoration work including for Lord Cowdry (a local estate owner in possession of some excellent pieces of furniture). Seeing his and other people’s fine furniture contributed greatly to the development of my appreciation of quality design and construction. In 1994 we left Scotland for Canada, a return home for me. We settled at Springhill Farm just outside Stirling, Ontario where in ‘98 I built my workshop called, fondly, The Perfect Joint. Here I continue to design and make furniture according to principles determined when I started.
Current Developments:
As a result of my more than twenty years of designing, making and repairing furniture, it is clear to me the people, their furniture tastes and requirements do not fit into the same box. We are all different and the homes and places we create are likewise unique. I enjoy working with customers toward the design and construction of furniture which provides for their requirements, which helps create a special ambience and which satisfies their and my sense of quality.
